Are you planning a pop-up wedding or elopement? Maybe you’re a nontraditional couple, you like to break the rules, you’re easygoing and laidback, or all of the above. No matter what your style, pop-up weddings are a refreshing way to celebrate your love without the hustle and bustle of a formal wedding.

As you plan a romantic pop-up wedding ceremony, try adding some of these quick and easy touches to make your day unique and special.

1. Make creative programs.

Even if you’re eloping and planning a casual wedding ceremony, you can still create programs to set the tone–and they don’t have to be formal and stuffy! Try including romantic pictures of the two of you, or fun trivia questions about your relationship. This will give your guests something fun to look at before you take their breath away coming down the aisle!

2. Plan a special reading or performance.

Do you have a favorite literature quote or a song you and your future hubby love? If one of your friends or family members likes performing, this can be a meaningful part of your pop-up ceremony that’s personalized to you. You can also wait until the reception to have them perform as a way to get the party started!

3. Create an open seating area.

Pick a seat, not a side.” Many modern brides and grooms live by this mantra and encourage their families to become one. Allowing guests to choose where they sit–or even stand, depending on how casual your venue is–gives them more freedom and more time to focus on you.

4. Prepare for the weather.

If you’re eloping to a beachy location, consider giving everyone sunscreen, water, and leis so they can stay cool–and fun! You can also set up a lemonade stand for a casual, backyard vibe. Laidback touches like this will make your pop-up wedding truly special.

5. Try a twist on the rice-throwing tradition.

Traditionally, wedding guests used to throw rice on the newly married couple as a symbol of prosperity and fertility. Especially when you’re planning a pop-up wedding, this tradition can sometimes be too much. For a casual twist on this old tradition, give your guests bubbles or noisemakers to blow when you walk up the aisle. Have a sweet tooth? You could also have them throw colored sprinkles for a colorful photo opportunity!
